Book of Glass is a series of acrylic paintings on plexiglass panels that combine images of
maps, family photographs, botanical studies and advertising motifs to explore memory and
cultural artifacts through time. Painted forms appear to float on the plexiglass, creating unique
interplays of texture and shape on multiple layers of transparent panels. As the paint rests on
the surface of the panels, every textural detail and brush stroke remains visible. This method
of image-making is meant to convey the many layers of thought, memory and sensory input
that we experience simultaneously and continuously. The glass like surfaces also speak to the
fragility of memories and life itself. The paint is used to transcribe the acute sensitivity we can
feel in response to our surroundings, emotions and inner thoughts.
